Jelani Richards

Coach Jelani is from the US Virgin Islands where his first sport was baseball, but when he reached middle school he became interested in playing volleyball due to seeing his father play and represent there Island.  At age 13 he played in his first volleyball team that was coached by his father.  When he entered High school @ St Croix Educational Complex in the 9th grade he played for the varsity team as a setter.  During the summer of 1998 he played his first International tournament on the Virgin Islands JR National team where he played in Jamaica. Then for his Junior and senior year of High school his team was undefeated and he was named MVP.  He played college volleyball at the University of the Virgin Islands.  In 2002 Jelani played in another international tournament in St Maarten that they won also getting the MVP award.  He traveled to several other Islands with the Virgin Islands National Team (number 7) to represent his country for indoor and beach volleyball.  Jelani competed in the USA National Beach tournament in 2010 in the Men's AA Division and also competed in the 2014 World Championships for indoor volleyball representing the US Virgin Islands.
